CCC Online Learning Environment

Scratch was used as the game design platform for all individual student project work in the '09-10 ITRD program.

Five teachers from Torrington High School attended an enlightening, three-day Summer Institute in preparation for facilitating the CCC Bio21 program in the upcoming school year.

Bio21 uses a blended learning environment that extends traditional science instruction and enhances classroom learning by combining face-to-face classroom instruction with a variety of Internet resources for use by students and teachers.

Teachers at the Institute learned how to use the online environment and the new activity management system effectively in their classrooms. The teachers expressed excitement about using new technology and bringing their students into a 21st century learning environment.

Participants were also introduced to this year's CCC theme—“Moving Forward and Giving Back”. The ’10-11 Bio21 challenge asks students to develop a feasible biomimicry-based technology or product that can help give back to their community and/or to the world at large. Student teams will present their ideas at the Connecticut Student Innovation Expo at the Connecticut Convention Center, May, 2011.
